As founder and former chief executive of InterOil, Phil Mulacek helped lead the company’s exploration work in Papua New Guinea. InterOil’s 2013 announcement of his retirement credited his exploration leadership with the Elk–Antelope and Triceratops discoveries.

Discovery is one stage in the development of an energy resource. Appraisal establishes a clearer picture of a field and informs later engineering and commercial decisions. The Elk and Antelope fields became a central part of InterOil’s exploration and appraisal history.
